Where We Work

Latin America and Caribbean (LAC)

Overview of the Region

The Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region is home to an active and expanding Church community in Central America. CBM’s presence in the region began in 1898 when Archibald Reekie arrived in La Paz, Bolivia at a time when protestant mission was illegal. Today, evangelical Christians make up nearly 50% of the population. Despite the high number of believers, the region faces severe challenges, including extreme poverty, violence, corruption, and inequality. CBM’s initiatives focus on empowering churches and leaders in the region to actively participate in community engagement and become catalysts for hope and change.

Our vision is centered on cultivating robust North-South relationships that enable mutual learning and support between Canadian and LAC churches, enhancing their impact within their respective communities. An emerging initiative, the Latin America Leadership Exchange (LALE), facilitates a network among our partners across five countries, fostering peer exchanges and collaborative growth.
