Dear brothers and sisters, grace to you from our Lord!
Greetings from Kassel, Germany. Although you are far away from us, with different languages, cultures, and spiritual growth backgrounds, the Lord Jesus connects us together as fellow travelers serving the Lord and proclaiming the gospel. Thank you for your interest in our mission to the Chinese population here in Germany.
It has been almost two years since our family moved from Heidelberg to Kassel. Our two children have started kindergarten here and they have integrated very well. We thank the Lord for the wonderful kindergarten for our children. Since my younger son has also successfully entered kindergarten this year, Ming and I have more time to work.
However, at the beginning of the year many people came down with the flu in Germany. Our children caught it at kindergarten and brought the illness back home. Since February all our family members have been sick in turn.
Sometimes we felt very tired. Being sick affected our visiting ministry as we needed to take care of ourselves and our family and were also afraid of spreading it to others. During these difficult days, we prayed and entrusted more to the Lord. We also shared our concerns with our brothers and sisters and asked everyone to pray for our health and the ministries that we needed to undertake. We thank the Lord for leading our family out of this challenging situation, and for deepening our relationship with our brothers and sisters in the Lord.
As National Field Staff, we are responsible for leading the Chinese Christian Fellowship in Kassel. We lead and equip the believers through weekly sermons and Sunday school teaching, regular visits, prayers, and one-to-one discipleship training. These services may not seem to be particularly new, but through this steady spiritual nurturing, our brothers and sisters grow in their spiritual lives step by step. Praise the Lord that the power of God’s Word is so wonderful.
Every year during the Easter holidays, our local organization in Germany, FMCD (Forum for Mission among Chinese in Germany) organizes a five-day camp (Chinese Christian Discipleship Camps). Brothers and sisters from Chinese churches from all over Germany come together to worship, listen to sermons, share in small groups and pray. The camp has been held for almost twenty years, and in Germany where there are many Chinese churches but few pastors, this event is a great opportunity for the brothers and sisters.
When we first arrived in Kassel, we had heard that there were only 1-2 people attending the camp. Over the past two years, we have encouraged our brothers and sisters to grow spiritually and persuaded them to attend the camp. Last year there were about 10 people who attended, and this year almost everyone from the church attended (23 people). “Attending camps for more equipping” has become a spiritual culture in the church. The Word of God causes brothers and sisters to grow spiritually and inspires everyone’s hearts to thirst for God. After returning from the camp, brothers and sisters actively shared what they had gained from the camp. They resolved to read the Bible regularly and participate in church service more. Praise the Lord!
Please pray for us and our ministry in Kassel:
- We give thanks for the willingness of our brothers and sisters in the church to grow spiritually and ask the Lord to keep our hearts.
- Pray for the church’s evangelization ministry, especially among these young students.
- Pray for our family, that the Lord would keep our health.
Thank you for reading our letter and may the Lord bless you!
